Top 5 Things To Do On A Rainy Day BESIDES Watching TV

Fun activities to help you feel good and protect your mental health!

Do you always feel like rainy days are a waste of a day?

Don't worry, everyone feels this way! Most of the time it feels like the only thing to do is watch TV. Wanna know a secret? There are so many other things you can do at home on a rainy day BESIDES watching tv!

But wait a minute... why can't I watch TV?

Oh no you can still watch TV if you want to! But don't feel like that is your only option. I want to provide you with 5 other options of activities you can do so that you don't feel like watching TV is the only option to turn to.

Got it! Is there anything wrong with just watching TV on a rainy day?

Not necessarily! Listen, everyone enjoys a good veg out session. Believe me, I myself need them from time to time! It can be nice to just sit back, relax, and not have to think or do anything. However, too much of this "veg" out time can actually trigger feelings of anxiety and stress if we aren't careful.

On days when it's not raining, most of the time we are being pretty active. When it's nice out we're more likely to find time to get outdoors, maybe go shopping, spend time with friends and family, or go try that new restaurant we've been meaning to go to! So then on rainy days, when we don't do any of these activities and the whole day is spent staring at a screen... guilt can start to creep in.

Guilt that nothing was accomplished that day. Guilt that the time you were hoping to do activities A, B, and C has now been wasted. You may even also start to feel stressed of how you will find the time during the week to do the things you didn't get to do on this rainy day. These feelings can start trickling into feelings of anxiosuness. So how can we avoid this? What are our options?

top 5 things to do besides Watching tv:

1) Organize & Clean

Clutter and mess only enable stress and anxiety. Think of a place in your house that you've been meaning to organize but you just haven't gotten to. C'mon... I know you have one. Use today to finally take care of it! By doing this, you are tackling a stress that you've been experiencing, gaining control of your environment, and setting yourself up for success. You will find that you have a much easier time focusing on work the next couple of days by knowing that this clutter is no longer lingering as a "to do" that one day you'll find the time to get to.

2) At Home Spa Day

Did you know you can do an at home spa day for under $10? I'm not kidding! All you need to do is head to Marshalls or any other store nearby that has face masks, bubble bath soap, candles, and lotion. (Yes all of this can be purchased for under $10!) Grab your materials and find where in your home you want to do your spa day. I like to do bubble baths but some people prefer just the face mask in their bedroom or on their couch. Once you've found your spot, turn on some spa music on your phone (quick YouTube search, so easy!) and enjoy some relaxing me time that you probably haven't had in a VERY long time.

3) Try A New Recipe

Is there a recipe you've been dying to try from Pinterest? Or have you always been interested in taking a virtual cooking class but can't find the time? Well here you go! Try out a new recipe you've been wanting to do. There are tons of virtual cooking classes or you can just find a recipe on your own. My favorite part about this activity is that there is a yummy treat at the end!

(Well... hopefully... could be another pizza night but hey! Who's complaining?!)

4) Play Games

Spend quality time with the people in your home and play games. Whether it's cards, board games, or setting up solo cups and bowling with a roll of socks, have some fun! Just because we're stuck inside doesn't mean we can't have fun together. Playing games helps you and your loved ones spend quality time together while practicing team work and challenging yourselves. Let's not forget the best part of this! Game nights tend to always bring fun memories and endless giggles leaving our hearts full for days.

5) Plan Your Next Vacation

Where have you been wanting to go? Any bucket list trips? Has it been difficult to plan because you can't find a good travel agent yet or you just haven't been able to research everything? Well now you have the time! Take this time to get excited about something. Use this time to plan your vacation and have something to look forward to.

So the next time you are sitting in your home bored on a rainy day, try one of these new activities. Which one will you do first?! Let me know in the comments!
